This range of cables is for mains supply electricity, being steel wire armoured they are suitable for external use and direct burial. Cables with cross linked polyethylene insulation have established themselves as extensively superior to both polyethylene and PVC. Notably, they allow greater current carrying capacity, higher overload and short circuit performance. This can enable a smaller cable to be used in comparison to PVC (where voltage drop is not a consideration) thus resulting in a reduction in cost.
